AI / Edge / Robotics / 3D printing
Intelligence. With intention.
Exploring the connections between intelligent software and the physical world.
Carpenter Labs brings together AI, edge computing, emerging robotics, and 3D printing. From software experiments to physical prototypes, a closer look inside the lab is coming soon.
Orbit sets every ring turning at its own pace.

Four connected fields.
One considered perspective.
Ideas become more meaningful when intelligent software, physical systems, and hands-on making develop together. Each field below runs a small live demonstration. Touch it.
Understanding & interaction
Making intelligence tangible.
Exploring AI through useful software, clearer interfaces, and hands-on experiments. The interest is in what can be understood, tested, and developed with care.
- A small neural network is learning to separate two kinds of points.
- Cyan connections strengthen a signal. Amber connections suppress it.
- Move across the map to test it, or pick a new pattern to make it start over.
Software meets the physical world
Bringing ideas into form.
Connecting software with sensing, physical prototypes, and local computing. Edge computing makes it possible to explore how intelligent systems respond beyond a screen.
- A camera watches a moving target and sends each frame to wherever the model runs.
- The farther away the model, the later the answer comes back, so the tracker trails the target.
- Delay is stretched so you can see it. Millisecond values are illustrative, not measurements.
A direction for the future
Capability, developed thoughtfully.
Looking toward embodied intelligence and future robotic systems. This is an evolving research direction, guided by positive outcomes and respectful development.
- The arm repeats a simple loop: perceive the table, plan a path, act on it.
- Every joint angle is solved live with inverse kinematics.
- Click the table to place a part and watch the plan change.
Digital design / Physical iteration
From an idea to something real.
Using 3D printing to explore original forms, create physical prototypes, and refine designs through hands-on iteration. Each printed version makes an idea easier to examine, understand, and improve.
- The cyan lattice is the digital model. The metal form is what has been printed so far.
- Drag the layer control to scrub through the build, or switch versions to watch an idea iterate.
- This is spiral vase mode: one continuous path, one layer after another.
The person behind the lab
Dustin Carpenter
Founder / Carpenter LabsCarpenter Labs is a solo-founder lab built around a practical interest in how intelligent systems connect with the world.
The work spans web development, visual design, AI-assisted creation, edge computing, and physical prototyping through 3D printing. The lab brings those interests into one space for independent experimentation and continued learning.
The approach is simple: make useful progress, speak honestly about the work, and consider the responsibilities that come with growing capability.
Positive outcomes. Thoughtful development.
Care for the systems we create.
